More About Skiing
Snow and more snow. The truth is that there is less than six inches. but in a city without snowplows and an ethic of once it sticks to the street it's there until it melts, this means, school and work are cancelled or at least "virtual": as in, working from the couch. Gangs of kids roam the streets in search of elevation. Bikers show off their powder skills, and cross country skiers take up space on the roads. There is a wonderful quiet in the air. People carry groceries from the store, without the aid of combustion. Adults allow themselves to sled with their children or grandchildren. And we have a glimpse of what it was like in those nostalgic christmas carols that speak of dashing through the snow on a one-horse open sleigh. Though I must admit, I didn't see one of those.
