February Challenge - G

Day 7 of DDW's February daily challenge - G

I had a dreadful journey into work this morning, on the M1 going into London there were 3 accidents, between passing the 2nd and 3rd I was suddenly covered in what can only be described as a wall of water, the motorway was flooded. Having survived that I then saw the 3rd accident, and can totally understand how Nos 2 & 3 happened as they were either side of the flood.

The journey home was worse as far as road conditions were concerned. The M25 had 2 lanes closed due to flooding, which meant that there was no access from the M40, which is where I would join it. Consequently, I diverted (as I had no choice) and took my "pretty" route which involves single track roads with passing places. There were some flooded bits along there, the first ones were in spots that regularly flood, though today was worse than normal. There weren't any floods where I expected them, although there was a lot a debris in the road (and an idiot tailgating me in a BMW) but instead just as I was coming back into civilisation I came across what looked like a long stretch of flooded road. As I went through it, it got deeper and deeper. Eventually the water was splashing up onto the bonnet and there was strong resistance from the water. I got through OK, but just hope that no-one with a small petrol car tried to do it - I made it through as my car is a diesel and has no electrics to get upset by the water that would kill the engine, there was little hope for a small petrol engine car to get through. It took quite a distance for the brakes to dry out and give me full braking power again.

I arrived home and had an unexpected surprise - a CD catalogue from an international that I had entered - in 2012! The competition was in July 2012, and they were supposed to have posted the catalogues by the end of October 2012. It was post marked 2014, so you can't blame the post office.

All of these things - and not one of them could I twist to a word starting with a G!

Before going to Yosemite (which means this weekend) I have a number of jobs to get done, one is to replace the geared head on my tripod, the old one has got a lot of backlash now, so time to swap it out. Changing it is not a big job, although I do also have to swap the Swiss/Arca plate adaptor that I have so that I can use my nice L bracket on the camera with the new head. A simple job, and it has given me a G for the challenge.
