Birds of a Feather
So nothing really spectacular today, had to go and pay a very small Equine Invoice at the Vets today (Ardene at Kingswells on the A944 west of Aberdeen).
On the side of the car park, the staff have mounted some bird feeders and I was surprised at how many birds of vearious types where really enjoying the 24/7 supply of seed and peanuts.
So this very simple picture from the car. It was a toss of the coin for this or a pair of Blue Tits, and as I have uploaded a Blue Tit all ready, I went with this one of the Green Finch.
Next time you may be there, just find time to take in the spectacular of the nature of the variety of birds eating and playing in the area.
Its twittering and wheezing song, and flash of yellow and green as it flies, make this finch a truly colourful character. Nesting in a garden conifer, or feasting on black sunflower seeds, it is a regular garden visitor, able to take advantage of food in rural and urban gardens. Although quite sociable, they may squabble among themselves or with other birds at the bird table.
The Greenfinch populations declined during the late 1970s and early 1980s, but increased dramatically during the 1990s. A recent decline in numbers has been linked to an outbreak of trichomonosis, a parasite-induced disease that prevents the birds from feeding properly.
