Ringside seat . . . .

. . . . . . but what were they watching?
Early this morning our peace was shattered by the sound of a chain saw and it was obviously quite close.
Three months ago Normous wrote to the agents of the flats next door to us, asking them to consider trimming a sycamore and felling a leylandi, both of which seriously shaded our garden and house. The conifer in particular had grown massive since we moved here, seriously shading our kitchen and living room. We didn't hear anything until last week when the agent met Normous to talk about it and then went away "to see what he could do". Out of the blue they came this morning and took away the gigantic leylandi. As always with tree surgery, it was riveting watching the agile young man swinging in the branches and bringing them down one by one, and eventually taking down the whole thing. They will return tomorrow to trim the sycamore. Brilliant!
It is wonderful to have the light in the living areas. Coco, my sister and Normous are now experts on tree felling having watched the procedure from beginning to end!
A dry sunny day and J and I walked in Polesden Lacey, searching out the pretty winter garden.
