God's Gift

Don't be deceived by the blue sky - it's freezing out there!

In 1619, this school was founded as a "College of God's Gift" to provide education for twelve poor scholars; six boys, six girls.

The red cinquefoils (flower shapes) represent hope and joy. The red chevron represents protection or faithful service. The hand clutching a human heart represents faith, charity and sincerity and the flames signify zeal.

The ten black spidery blobs near the top are not in fact spiders, they represent the black spots on the ermine cloaks worn by members of the House of Lords.

And that's what I learnt today.

G is for God's Gift.
