I Must Down to the Seas Again
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running ride
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied.
John Masefield.
And so at my request, we drove down the coast to Gullane this morning in sunshine which was melting the frost on roofs near the coast and causing His Lordship at the wheel a certain amount of discomfort by its low angle in his oh so blue eyes.
To recover from his ordeal, we had a very civilised café and küchen in Falko's before walking on the beach.
The tide was going out and we could walk amongst the rocks, and watch the wavelets forming a frilly edging to the beach contours.
The dunes and path were a riot of orange buckthorn bushes. Such a pity it is so bitter that even the birds don't eat the berries.
With such a beautiful day here, it is even harder to believe what is happening in the south of England; the distress and devastation caused by the continuing storms and flooding seems unremitting and never ending. Let's hope things improve soon.
