A little bit of local history

We have plaques like these up all over Kendal and I really like them: little bits of historical information about places and buildings. I suppose one day when I have some Google specs, knowledge like this will pop up all the time but, for now, I like the plaques.

I particularly like this one. The tiny slice of history makes me smile; Charlie setting off for London. Pause. Charlie scurrying back with the Duke of Cumberland in hot pursuit.

The last sentence appeals to me, too. I always think it reads as though there was a bit of space left on the plaque that needed filling.
