12 Years

First visit to the cinema for ages, to see 12 Years a Slave. An extraordinary film experience, such beautiful filmmaking. The first film I've seen by Steve McQueen, amazed by how different it felt to usual Hollywood approach.

I've read Solomon Northup's memoir and was impressed by how faithful McQueen was to the text. A harrowing but important few hours. I hope it sweeps the boards at the Oscars.
