Setting sun and moon

Second day in Mt Cook Village, it was started with an early awakening, 5.45 saw the sun come up and an inability and unwillingness to sleep. Naturally, I grabbed the camera and tried to catch some sort of sunrise, this was mostly uneventful so after being chased by Kea we went back to bed for a nap before check out. On return to the hotel, we spotted the door we opened from last night, it was tied closed. We felt quite sorry for scaring that woman so much but were also equally cowardly and didn't offer a face to face apology.

After check out, we looked for a place to grab breakfast and waited on our tour bus to carry us to a glacial lake, the air conditioned bus was a welcome sight even at 11am. The boat ride was really interesting, informative and fun. We had no idea what to expect and left very happy with the whole thing. getting to touch ice bergs that have come adrift from the clacier was a really neat surprise.

After lunch, we watched movies in the Sir Edmund Hillary Alpine Centre Experience Musem Exhibition Cinema Slash Planetarium Tyoe Thing (thats not its actual title) and checked out the rather sparce displays. The planetaruim is a brilliant thing and my first experience of anything like that. A large dome descends over the audience and you see the sky above you and they play animations through 4 projectors to totally immerse you. Great stuff.

Walking through a bit of Hooker Vally was the rest of the evening taken up nicely, got some incredible shots, including this one from the campsite. It felt really strange to see the moon appearing to dip behind this mountan as the sun set over it. Perhaps it was an optical illusion.

After this we headed home to Queenstown with a stop off for wedges, followed my more star and mountain shots in the Lindiss pass.

Another storybook ending to a couple of days away. Life is getting better with every day that passes.
