What on earth?

This was just about the most colourful growing thing I could find outdoors today. It is a twig from a hawthorn tree, with some kind of fungi or lichen growing on it.
If anybody knows what it is, do let me know! I just hope it is not a disease, as it is one of my favourite trees in the garden.

I'm not mentioning the rain.

But there's a beef casserole in the slow-cooker, and I'm reading an intriguing new book, so perhaps a cosy evening is in store for us!?
