A piece of history
The brown wooden hull in the middle of this image is all that is left of the oldest surviving clipper ship in the world - the City of Adelaide.
She pre-dates the Cutty Sark by 5 years, and brought more than 800 immigrants to South Australia in the 1860's and 1870's.
Her story is long and complex, but the end result is that she has been saved from demolition in Scotland, and purely by public donations and support has been brought back to Adelaide where she will be restored and take the central place in the Maritime Museum. What they are trying to do right now is disembark her from the container ship that brought her here, and it's proving to be rather harder than they anticipated.
Rotting timbers
It's so exciting to see this historic ship back in our own waters. If you want to see how it has happened check out her own website .
We would never have been down at Port Adelaide had it not been for a re-enactment taking art by the Rower's family who originally emigrated out here 150 years ago.
