Volunteer Park Conservatory
2/5/2014 ~ Volunteer Park Conservatory ~ North Capital Hill Neighborhood, Seattle, WA
On a very cold day, at least for Seattle, where the temperatures ranged from 21 to 31 degrees fahrenheit and the real temperature with windchill a lot less, 700,000 people came downtown for a parade for the Seattle Seahawks who won the super bowl. Major traffic issues in the morning, afternoon and still being felt this evening, as well as the public transportation system being stressed to the breaking point.
This has nothing to do with the picture I took because I did not attend the parade due to work schedule. A lot of people, took off work along with their children who they allowed to miss school obviously had a wonderful day in the cold.
On the way home this evening I dropped by Volunteer Park hoping to get a chance to walk through the Conservatory since it is a very peaceful and warm place with a lot of color inside. Winter hours in effect and they closed at 4:00 PM and I missed the opportunity. I still loved the look of the building in the late afternoon sun and took a few photographs, knowing I did not want to go out this evening in the cold looking for another opportunity.
The conservatory contains five houses: Bromeliad House; Palm House; Fern House; Seasonal Display House; and the Cactus House. More information can be found here: https://www.seattle.gov/parks/parkspaces/volunteerpark/conservatory.htm
A great place to visit any time of the year if you ever make it to Seattle.
