Wreck at Saltwick
The walk from Whitby to Saltwick is only accessible at low tide and is far more interesting but less popular than the main beach on the west side of the harbour. This is a small wreck near the Nab but there is also the remains of a concrete boat. The boat was used during the Second World War to block the entrance to the harbour in case of invasion by sea. Once the war was over the boat was blown up near the cliffs below Whitby Abbey.
