#4 Daw

DDW February Challenge #4 Daw

Daw (v.) to rouse or awake one
I was just dawed; I was just awakened from a sound sleep.

This word is from A Glossary of Provincial and Local Words used in England, published in 1839 and containing 3 kinds of provincial words:
1) Obsolete words of Saxon or Danish origin
2) Foreign language derivatives, "but so corrupted, by passing through the mouths of illiterate clowns, as to render their origin scarcely discoverable."
3) Arbitrary words, "ludicrous nominations"

This rooster was hanging out by the side of the road just outside of town in the valley next to an old farmhouse. The residents are surely dawed on a daily basis by this guy. To coin a couple of new words based on this provincial one (said to be used in Northumberland in the 1800s), this is a picture of a Dawist who religiously practices Dawism. :)
