Vinyl Junkie

Over the years I've been addicted to a few different things, I think I've an addictive personality. Call them 'Bugs' and you can successfully hide your addiction for years.

I won't embarrass myself by recounting my earlier addictions but of late it has been photography based either taking photos... of which I'm still badly afflicted or buying old film cameras of which I've got loads.

I've never returned to an old addiction before, until recently. The purchase of a box of old vinyl records at auction about a year ago (£2) sparked the return of the Bug. It grumbled away at a slow pace until I discovered a few shops that have rekindled their own interest in vinyl to serve a new generation of junkies (and the re-addicted).

On my recent trip to Dundee, I made the now essential visit to the vinyl heaven that is Grouchos. The shop has survived since my original addiction in the mid 80s although it has moved from the side of the old Overgate Centre to a position at the bottom of the Perth Road. Over the course of a year the shop has gone from being pretty quiet to pretty busy with moves afoot to extend the vinyl shelving area. Of all the shops now stocking second hand vinyl it is probably the best for price and selection.

In later blips I'll wax lyrical about the joys of vinyl shopping as opposed to mp3 download or amazon cd searches. I'll leave you with the blipfoto mainly showing a few recent bargains, exploring a few avenues not explored in the 80s due to a combination of ignorance, lack of money and the price at the time. How many can you recognise?
