My first day in the garden this year
A beautifully blue morning and quite mild in the sun, so I made a start at tidying one area of overgrown pyracantha. It isn't ours, we didn't plant it, but it surrounds us like sleeping beauties hedge and it's prickly deadly stuff that doesn't easily go into the green waste bins. A small area cleared back, leaves swept and plant pots re-arranged. The spot I've cleared today is sheltered and we still have a geranium out in flower - quite amazing to say we live on the edge of the Pennines. I photographed yellow crocus today too to add to my garden photographic diary - I love to see when different plants come into flower each year. They are the only things in flower so far, our snowdrops were acquired from local naturalised ones and they are always late and the hellebores have large buds, so they won't be long unless it turns very cold. There doesn't seem to be much chance of that in the next few weeks as more storms and wind are forecast. We've been so much luckier than people in the south and SW - at least we only have mud and not floods!
