Digital
As the clock spins further backwards in the pursuit of archive blips we delve once more into the realms of scanning.
The more I scan slides and negs the more I get convinced of my opinion that digital really has democratised photography. If it's not bad enough having to learn how to take a photograph, with scanning there is a whole new perversely complicated science around just getting the damn image on a computer. Then we have to do something with the bloody thing. In my opinion scanning was only a bridge technology between the analogue and digital age, but a very obstructive bridge if you really want your digital versions to be a decent representation of your work. I'm more than happy to plug the camera into the Mac and start enjoying making an image rather than wrestling with a third layer of near incomprehensibility.
Adventures in Bolivia coming soon to an archive near me......
