Contrast on a dull day
I have three woodpeckers eating their way through my stock of peanuts. Two males and one female, I think it's mum, dad and a juvenile because they keep chasing him off. They are daily visitors so I am trying to keep an eye out for a potential nest site. They make a very good early warning system - if one of them is on a feeding station and the other is in the pear tree and spots danger (cat, human, sparrowhawk) they kick off 'chucking' very loudly.
