Male Siskin

The Siskin is a tiny beautiful finch, this one was trying out the new Niger seed feeder or possibly having a bird bath. The day was wild and wet, the garden birds persevered and made good use of the feeders, the suet tray is very popular with the sunflower seed remaining the favourite.

From the internet:
Carduelis spinus

The siskin is a small, lively finch, smaller than a greenfinch. It has a distinctly forked tail and a long narrow bill. The male has a streaky yellow-green body and a black crown and bib. There are yellow patches in the wings and tail.

In the breeding season, look for it in the tops of trees in suitable habitat in Scotland and Wales, where they are fairly common. They like to eat seeds, especially of conifers, alders and birch, and some insects.
