We drove to Arbois, the wine capital of the Jura and from there to Château Chalon. Before driving through the vineyards, we ate by the river, looking towards the village perched on the cliff above. Château Chalon is the birthplace of Vin jaune, a yellow wine that is earthy and nutty in flavour and not for the faint hearted. We wandered about the village, but it was SO hot and in the end we gave in to the children's demands to find the Cascades nearby. They had a wonderful time in the water and it was a real balm to rest on one of the boulders with my feet dangling in the cool water.
