The Agony of Defeat

Super Bowl weekend! But because I'm in Japan, it's Super Bowl Monday, and it's on in the morning our time. So that means those of us with a party scheduled to watch it at night have to go the whole day avoiding anything that might give away the score. No Facebook, no news sites, no sports anything. But it's totally worth it, because the Super Bowl is an event that is far better viewed having some food and beers with people than going solo.

This guy is a Broncos fan, and as you can probably guess by this picture, they did not do well (one of the biggest blowouts in Super Bowl history). That's the risk of sports: your feelings on things vary so drastically depending on how your team does. It's funny; you probably never have played for any of the teams you root for, but it still feels like a "we" thing, and you feel the highs and lows along with the players. The emotions that they create, and the ties that they bring with them, are some of the most beautiful things about sports.
