It was my turn to program the GPS. I picked a couple of locations from the website and we were off on the hunt.
The first location was beside the highway. Pretty much easy peasey. D walked right up to the spot with the GPS in his hand and there it was under a bush with a flap of metal over it for protection. It was a plastic cylinder with a cap. Inside was the paper list rolled up tight. It also included some trade items - a little nativity scene and a plastic lizard.
The second location was on the road to Martinez Lake. Again, D narrowed the search with the GPS in his hand. He found a dark green munition case under a bush. He hauled it out but it took the two of us to pull the lid off. There was a great little collection of tradeables inside - sea shell, gold plastic pirate money, key chain...We left it all and just signed the roster, then slid the case back in under the bush.
I have a better idea now what I would need to do to set up a geocache myself. Perhaps I will get a chance at that when I return home in the spring.
