Omikuji
When you go to a Shinto shrine in Japan you can get your fortune on a piece of white paper called an omikuji. If the fortune is good, you take it home, if it's bad, you traditionally tie it to a pine tree (matsu, which has the same pronunciation as the word "to wait." You do this with the hope the fortune will hang around the tree instead of follow you home. Nowadays, shrines will set up different objects, like Omuranchan!
