Bulbs

Lighting store windows at dusk.

B is for ... is today's DDW challenge.

I seem to be stuck on 2x2 squares.
Is this a rut or a series?

Blipping is much more fun than shopping!

The reflections and the detail inside the store invite a look larger.

Jennifer, my yoga teacher, offered a class in breath meditation (pranayama) this morning at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. It's surprising that as well as I know her I'm still dazzled. She is a bringer of light.

Trinity's service was also a bringer of light. Jennifer came to church with me after her class. That was her turn to be dazzled. The music was fabulous (as always). The preaching was excellent (as always). The liturgy was profound (as always). There was even a little organ reference to Pete Seeger. When I told Jennifer that this Sunday was nothing special, it's like this every week, her eyes grew wide. Her reaction reminded me how fortunate I am to be nurtured by this remarkable combination of music, art, architecture, poetry, storytelling, and wisdom ancient and modern.

In the church calendar, today is the feast of the Presentation in the Temple, the moment when the infant Jesus was ritually offered to God under the Law of Moses. The light that had appeared to shepherds in the fields outside Bethlehem, and then to the Magi in a star illuminating the path to the Holy Child, now came into the Temple in Jerusalem. The Gospel of Luke tells us that Simeon, an old man who had been waiting for the appearance of such a sign, took the infant into his arms and blessed God and said:

Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations,
and the glory of your people Israel.

I hope your day was bright.
I hope your week will be filled with light.
