From biggest to smallest woodpecker...
Yesterday I posted the largest woodpecker in North America and today I give you the smallest (according to Wiki and a few other sources...). Outside of N. America, there are several smaller, but this is our tiniest woody woodpecker, the Downy. I've certainly featured this one before. But she was my prettiest shot today and after yesterday's big boy, this seemed appropriate. The little downy is about half the size of its look-alike, the hairy woodpecker I referred to in yesterday's size comparison link.
She may be tiny, but she's still bigger in large. :)
I'm just not feeling well at all, but we had flashes of sunshine here and there today and that sure made me smile! I'm always amazed at how much sunshine can improve the quality of an image... one tends to forget how nice light is for photography during a long Michigan winter. ;-)
