Squirrel Feeding At Boston Common
The weather here in Boston the past week was often below freezing. Similar temperatures are expected this coming week. In between, though, we've had a comparatively warm weekend, with a maximum of 5 C yesterday, and a positively roasting 10 C today. Of course, this being Boston, the warmest day of the fortnight also happens to be drizzly.
That didn't stop these residents of the Boston Common from enjoying an hour-long buffet of unshelled peanuts, 02:30p-03:30. There must have been six or seven circling about at one point, and perhaps ten or more in total stopped by during the meal.
It was a delightful surprise to learn that, like their cousins at the Univ of Michigan campus at Ann Arbor, they are comfortable eating food out of the hand, or, more accurately, grabbing it out of one's grip. The bravest two thought nothing of raiding my backpack (also called the Golden Goose attack), and of these, one even ended up on my shoulder a couple of times.
Also met a couple of other squirrel-feeders there. Definitely plan to return to the Common in warmer weather.
