Cheshire, as far as the eye can see...

It was a perfect day for walk, if you didn't mind the mud. And there was plenty of it.

But the weather was a different thing altogether - sunshine, wall to wall sunshine!

We decided on a local walk, so with the friends I was out with yesterday, we headed off towards the Staffordshire/Cheshire border. We started near St Mary's Church, Astbury, a Grade I listed building, and headed off across a few very wet and muddy fields.

We had a short trip along the Macclesfield Canal before we were walking uphill to the top of Mow Cop. I have blipped the folly on the top before. This view across Cheshire is almost from the same spot. The white blob in the far distance is Jodrell Bank.

On our route back we walked down the road where the Mow Cop Killer Mile is run each year. It's a mile, run uphill, with a climb of 550ft. The hardest bit being a 1 in 4 ascent past a local pub called The Cheshire View.

We discovered a Snugburys on the way home, a local ice cream company. So popped in for a coffee and cake - not feeling like ice cream today, but I'm sure we'll be back when it's warmer. The one near Nantwich is famous for its straw sculptures.

A grand day out!!
