Changing Face of the High Street - 6
I've often mentioned Crieff's two good High Street delis. This is one of them, in West High Street. In truth, neither are really delis as both are venerable shops that have evolved to satisfy newer tastes. Very sensible.
This one is known as Gill's, though there's no sign of that on the door. Typical small town naming policy to flummox visitors!
It sells some groceries and there's aleays local fruit and veg outside the door during opening hours. It's the main go to place for all things pertaining to bird feed and will deliver! Pate and cheese and Stornoway black pudding can also be found here. Furthermore, it's a great place for that Christmas or birthday pressie for any bloke in your life that otherwise would leave you stumped because it stocks loads of small distillery bottled beers and has an extensive range of whiskies. I've had recourse to Gill's on a number of occasions for that very readon.
There are probably loads of similar shops scattered throughout Scotland but what makes this one stand out is that it hasn't been modernised!! Look at the stained glass work on the windows and the old fashioned two door entrance!
And wonder of wonders, the door operates by way of a thumb-latch!! A thumb-latch! It's wonderful :-). I love it.
PS. If you look closely at the left hand window, you'll see an inadvertent selfie :-)
PPS. I couldn't bear to do another dreich rainy scene :-(
