Ivy taking over the tree

Earlier this week, I had posted a picture of ivy on the trunk of a tree. This is the full tree - you will note how ivy is taking over the tree. Not sure if it is a good ivy that is just supporting itself on the tree - or if the ivy is harming the bark/tree in any way?
