Wellington Gateway Sculpture

This sculpture is called 'The Pod' and is just outside Wellington in the central west of NSW. It is made from girders from the town's bridge which unexpectedly fell down in 1989. There was one vehicle on it at the time but miraculously no one was hurt. It did provide an interesting news story for the region at the time. The whole structure is quite large and meant to resemble a seed pod representing the fertility of the area. The wind chimes symbolise stalactites at the nearby Wellington Caves and it also portrays local flora including kangaroo grass, Paterson's curse and a local orchid.

PS. Have just added an image of the whole sculpture to further mystify those who don't understand it :-)

Incidentally the temperature when I took it was 39C. Not as bad as some are enduring, but a bit of a shock when I got out of the car after travelling from the much cooler Blue Mountains.
