A fortunate storm
We were so disappointed yesterday when our eagerly awaited marine survey to Belfast and back was cancelled due to severe storms in the Irish Sea, but we remembered that we had turned down tickets to the Halle Orchestra in Kendal tonight because of it.
A quick phone call and we had something to look forwards to after all.
One of the pieces was to be my favourite violin concerto, the Sibelius.
At the pre concert talk we met Henning Kraggerud our soloist for the evening and he told us about his wonderful 1744 Guarneri violin, so expectation was even higher as the piece began.
Well, we were not disappointed. It was the best performance I have heard, and the violin truly was amazing. The low notes were almost of cello quality, whilst the very high pieces were so strong and clear, it was truly a delight.
I certainly know where I would rather be on this wild and stormy night!
