Jewels for Eyes
My mum has been digging around looking for things in boxes, partly due to the impending wedding of my big bruvver but also since my dad is going to speak to the Chief's class about WW2 for their school project. Looking for their Ration books she came across this letter. Master Willie Campbell was my Grandad, who I never met since he died when mum was 15. The letter is from his eldest brother, my Great Uncle Sandy, who as the eldest of seven, must have been about 12 -14 years older than his youngest brother, my Grandad. Sandy, was serving with the Army in Burma and the letter must be close to one hundred years old.
The address is just wonderful: 'Somewhere' The land of Temples and Snakes and Tigers and Elephants and Idols with Jewels for Eyes'. The writing is sometimes hard to make out but I love the question: 'Are you still challenging Geordie Scott and Wull Collison to fight you?'!
Mum and I had a lovely afternoon looking through this one particular box which was full of treasures like this. I think I will have to return to it again soon.
And thanks to Leasko whose blip yesterday helped to inspire mine today!
