Shopping Ninjas
Mum wanted to buy some of Tess' stuff for her school ski trip, as she had done with Sam two years before, so she bravely came along for the whole stressful "shopping with Tess" experience. I hate shopping. Mum hates shopping. Tess hates shopping. But we survived with only 1 or two "moments" (possibly in Top Shop, but I was misted in anger with a shopping disagreement with Tess, so it could have been anywhere) and a pit stop for tea and cake with Dave and Sam (who seemed to be having much less stress spending Sam's remaining Xmas vouchers buying comics, second hand Terry Pratchet books and xbox stuff).
On the way back from the Scout and Guide Shop to buy the latest uniform - Guides this time, which looks like a ramblers outfit, and another treat to Tess from her Grandma - I spied this bizarre lang stane. I'd never noticed it before, despite or maybe because on the rare occassions that I swerved along that street as a teenager, I was no doubt under the influence of some cheap and nasty alcoholic beverages.
Mum, being properly Scottish history hardcore - she runs a weekly history club with 80 members - knew all about it and I think was a wee bit disappointed that her youngest had overlooked this stoic memento of an age old battle. Langstane Kirk, it all makes sense now.
