GARE LIGHT

This image is part of Smoggie’s Teesside Tour with Blipper Adyclick – trying to get him back into using his journal.

This is South Gare Lighthouse and breakwater at the mouth of the River Tees. Built in 1884, it is a 13 metres high automated light, guiding ships into the Tees.

Now owned by the Port Authority access is restricted due to the high seas and dangerous currents. Sadly many fishermen have lost their lives along here and care needs to be taken.
As high tide approaches the strong winds turn the sea into a wild beast !
