When my mother was looking out old slides the other day she came across a ledger in which my dad recorded all their income and outgoings for around the first ten years of their marriage. On the right hand page the name or company is listed along with the amount, and on the left he's added more detail about certain payments. These entries are from December 1959 and, as you can see, include an instalment on a camera (he'd paid the deposit in November). I wonder if this was the same Zenit he gave to me in the 1980s, and on which I learned the basics of photography (nothing about it was automatic!). The whole thing makes for fascinating reading, and it's really lovely to see his handwriting again after all these years.
More terrible weather today - it's been bad even by Shetland standards. The local paper reported today that this January has been the windiest since 1993, and that there have been only 17 hours of sunshine all month...
