Political Martyrs

On my way to St Andrew's House this morning for a discussion on preventive spend I grabbed a quick photo up the entrance to the Old Calton Burial Ground, liking the dark shilouette. The obelisk is the monument to the political martyrs, erected in 1844 to five political reformers of the 18 th and 19th century.

As a cemetery it is often overlooked with memorials to David Hume and Scottish American Soldiers in the American civil war, notable for its statue of Abraham Lincoln on top.

The rest of the day was caught up in, amongst other things, meetings on the child poverty strategy, hearing about readiness for 19 September if a vote goes a certain way, and papers on advocacy. Life is nothing if not varied.
