Why is a Ship called 'She'

Another rainy day, but by lunchtime it had brightened up a little so as I had a days holiday we decided to visit Aldeburgh.

It was very chilly and damp as we walked along the beach. Ian was photographing the lifeboat tractor when one of the engineers invited us to have a look around the Lifeboat Station which was most interesting and the guys maintaining the carriage were a mine of information. I saw this in the information leaflet rack by the window and it appealed to our sense of humour, hope it does yours too!
