Computer tomography
I may as well give the fancy machine its full title.
Following my overnight stay in hospital 4 weeks ago it was felt a CT scan would be helpful work out whatever it is that is going on inside me.
I have therefore embraced another new experience today.
There was more it than I had been led to believe but the explanations made sense.
A large amount of water to drink helped to bloat me, and a cannula allowed for an iodine die to be injected into me to make the scan clearer.
I was advised the iodine injection might make me feel warm and indeed it did and was not the slightest unpleasant.
The obligatory hospital gown in a fetching blue did nothing for my appearance and almost choked me as I tried to position myself correctly on the scanner bed. The radiographer did warn me and told me how to avoid it but it still happened!
It was reassuring that I know the radiographer and we had a really good chat. I am absolutely certain that I was not singled out for special treatment, however.
I am equally certain that she treats everyone with the same diligent care as I was given.
Where would we be without our wonderful NHS and the incredibly talented people who work within it?
A lot worse off, that's where.
