More High Tides

4.5C and dull with heavy cloud. Breezy.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went for our walk after lunch. We walked down the road to the shore road then along to the level crossing intending to have a wander along the beach. Unfortunately there was no beach.

Half an hour after a high tide of 5.5 metres the waves were still running into the small line of dunes along the back of the beach. Lots of sand has been thrown to the back of the beach and the dunes are scattered with debris.

We walked along the grass area behind the beach to the fishermen's huts. The owner of Shamara II has taken all of the floats and creel marker flags from the storage area on the seaward side of his creel rack structure and placed them together in front of his hut. High tides of 5.8 metres are expected on Saturday and more wind is expected. Today's tide had clearly been running up the beach as high as the structure and at one point where the boats are brought off the beach it looked like the sea had been right up into the grass area where the boats are. The owner of the end cottage has piled more sand, some of it packed into old tyres, between his garden fence and the sea.

Maeve and I walked up to the back of the huts and made our way along the road in front of the cottages before turning for home.
