Goldeneye....err fly
Out early this morning - it's like an oven out there at the moment.
There is a native plant which seems to attract all sorts of interesting insects. Once I've found out what it is, I'm going to plant one.
This was a real find for me - never seen one before, but it's a Golden Native Drone Fly (Eristalinus punctulatus). Quite spectacular with those strange spotted eyes. They are nectar feeders by the way, and an important pollinator. Not to be confused with the bad flies - this is definitely one of the good guys.
Which begs the question - do they see the world as a golden spotted place?
