Progressing..

Strong winds again today, but bright and sunny..

Spent the morning sorting out items for "The Scourie News". Not one of you multinational dailies, more a monthly 4 sides of A4 (in a good month!). Bits about the camera club, bits about the village web pages, and a summary of the months met figures. Following Decembers wettest month for 20 years, we've had only 66 mm in January (so far), with the monthly 20 year average for Jan being 151 mm.

This afternoon I carried on with the pointing. Before you put new pointing in, you have to take the old out. I have a pneumatic chisel (£15 from Lidl!) and small compressor. Does the job nicely, and then a quick blow down with the airline. I got 9 builders buckets of old cement and soil (the space between the inner and outer walls are filled with soil!). In the corner you can see the cupboard space, a recess about 18 inches deep (the end wall is around 50 inches wide and houses a chimney), with the lintel I replaced above it. The piece of wood is the old lintel, and this is the best preserved one in the whole building!

There are a couple of temporary joists above, and I will fit another three to the left of these, and then fit floor boards. I'm using real tongue and groove wooden boards instead of the commonly used chip boards of today. Although more expensive, I feel they'll last longer.. And I'll put something in the window sometime to seal it and keep the draught out..
