Where Memories Go

The title of a beautiful book I've started reading, by Sally Magnusson, about her mother's dementia, but also about how we treat older people and what that says about our society. As the flyleaf says, "An extraordinary memoir and manifesto in one searingly beautiful narrative."

Just one fact - in the UK, the cost of dementia care is over £23 billion - more than the cost of care for stroke, heart disease and cancer combined, and poised to rise to dizzying levels.

My Mum has Alzheimer's and is in a Home - we visit most days, and it grieves me how she and the others are treated - but also realise we couldn't do it at home. Just wish it could be better.

Plus ... could be me soon enough...
