These coots drifted along close to the bank at Lake Padden and as long as I stood still, they didn't seem to be bothered, so they'd all pile out of the water and start pecking around. The minute I moved a muscle or took a step, they'd all pile back into the water. The process would repeat many times. I remembered I had a small bag of dry cat food in the car so I went and got it and tossed handfuls to them. Now I have friends for life it would seem.
