Stopped in to the coffee shop to get some things done that were slower going at home. Of course a girl with what was probably the most annoying laugh in the world was sitting next to me; its shrillness (almost forced, artificial) just managed to reach a level of treble that my noise-canceling headphones, and subsequently piped-in music, could hardly counteract. Maybe that's not fair. She was with someone, someone that made her laugh and who am I to disparage that? Aside from that auditory distraction--let's simply call it that instead--I did find some needed productivity, some needed personal environmental change. Poked in to the roasting chamber to see what Garold was up to and pick up some fresh beans I'd been seeking, and in doing so, I ran into renowned local musician Jacob Furr here, who also moonlights in the Avoca Coffee loading dock/roasting sanctum. We talked for a bit about his latest successful gig, which was actually a private house show. I'd heard about it from a few friends, on Facebook and in person, but it was interesting to get his take on it, get his perspective. He's experienced things, been witness and bearer of the challenges that life puts in front of us. I can't talk about those here, not because it's information not worth sharing of course, but because I have little understanding of the workings and designs that are put into motion by forces that escape the articulations of someone like me.
