The Boy in the Bubble
Somewhere in the back of my mind I remember from a film or reading it in a book that 'boys go to war and come back as men'. Sounds very stiff upperlip sort of stuff to me.
This photo is the front section of an Avro Lancaster, the 'bubble' is the viewing section at the front of the plane, where the bomber would guide the plane over the designated target and drop the bombs. This was my Grandads job during the war, looking in to it made me feel claustrophobic. Imagine that whilst being shot at as well. Mental!
"Probably the most famous and succesful heavy bomber of the Second World War
The prototype Lancaster first flew in January 1941 and by March 1945 there were 56 squadrons of Lancasters in first line service. Lancasters made a major contribution to RAF Bomber Commands offensive from 1942, taking part in many well-known operations such as the Dambusters' Raid by No. 617 Squadron RAF in 1943, the attack on the German rocket research station at Peenemunde the following August, and the sinking of the battleship Tirpitz in November 1944".

After my jaunt about the IWM I made my way up to Trafalgar Square and some lunch. The weathers been grand so sitting out has been great. The National Gallery at Trafalgar was my next bit of touristy stuff for a bit of art. And then a walk down to the South Bank for a well deserved pint! Or 2!!! I honestly cant remember how many, I definetly had one, I am sure of that.
