High Rise
Our first real trip out. We had heard that there were a couple of new 'beach' places opened up on the outskirts of town, so we decided to go for a look. The Golden Pleasure Beach Resort (I think) is very nice, the only thing it doesn't have is a beach. I had kind of forgotten that names in Tanzania very often don't reflect reality. So, although it was pleasant, and right on the lake, we didn't get to build sandcastles. We had just got our food (barbecued fish) when the heavens opened, so the waiter let down the canvas curtains on every side of our pavillion, and, while we weren't exactly cosy, we stayed dry.
The main attraction was the tank of catfish - must have been a hundred of them - I'm not sure whether they are for food or purely for entertainment. We were there while the water was being changed - achieved simply by running all the old water out back into the lake, and pumping in new. Catfish can survive with very little water, so we could see them in all their glory before the tank started filling up again. Not beautiful creatures, but interesting.
But the thing that really caught my eye during the drive was this stylish high rise des res, complete with resident goats.
