Well ...
... what a difference a day makes. We set off from picturesque Benicarló this morning and within an hour we were 1000m above sea level on a switchback road through deserted scrub-covered hills, and the temperature had dropped from a comfortable 18C to about 8. Once we were over the pass we saw this impressive sight in the distance.
Morella is a fortified hilltop town that still has all of its town wall intact, plus the castle on the top of its rocky outcrop. It couldn't be more of a contrast to Benicarló. This morning we had a look at a possible house to rent just outside Benicarló. It was in a lovely situation with large grounds surrounded by olive groves. However we were less than enthused by the neighbours' three dogs, the slow speed of the Internet connection, and the fact that the house was rather small. Our mission now is to find somewhere around Morella -- although we were slightly less enthusiastic when we went out after dark and were chilled to the bone within minutes. Maybe we'll go back down to sea level ...
I was going to blip the spectacular view of Morella. But when we sat down for lunch in the hotel, I was struck by the pattern of light and shade cast by the Venetian blinds. So it's another one in my mono series.
