It's on the move!
This is a small piece of wood I collected a couple of weeks ago when I was photographing the slime mould Badhamia uticularis. I've been keeping it damp and in the shade and today I noticed it is showing these yellow strands of the active, mobile stage of the organism. It is searching for food. I have warned Oscar the cat!
This is not the species that a lot of the experimental work has been carried out on - Physarum polycephalum - but I'm hoping to follow its life cycle and see if I can observe it exhibiting some of the same clever behaviour. Please don't tell my wife it is in my study!
