Shenzhen: Basking Drums
It's our Chinese New Year school celebration tomorrow and the drums are moved and ready to be set out in the morning, basking here in the evening light.
The big ones (da gu) will be set on the bridge in the background, the small (xiao gu) following the railing (out of shot) with the mu yu, which lurk behind the drums. Various other instruments of sonic destruction (cymbals, gongs) will join the onslaught overlooking the school field, where all will assemble.
Our four Grade 7 (Year 8) classes will take turns to 'mark the hours' in the old Drum & Bell Tower tradition. Ear plugs packed?
