Frozen Waterwheel

Today was our final day in Prague. In the morning we went to a lookout place which gave us views over the whole city, which was incredible. It was snowing ever so lightly on top of the hill and with the sun shining the snow looked like glitter falling from the sky. The view was quite hazy, but the many steps to the top of the tower were definitely worth it!

Back at ground level, we saw how this waterwheel had completely frozen up (-8*C today- I said it was cold!!), after we'd seen it freely turning on Thursday. The shot was taken through some of the hundreds of lover's padlocks which cover the bars on the bridge. The shape of the icicles were phenomenal; the curve in them shows how the wheel must have been ever so slightly turning as the icicles were forming. Despite wearing 2 pairs of (woolly) tights, 2 pairs of leggings, thick leg warmers, socks, a t-shirt, a long sleeved top, a shirt, a jumper, a thick woolly cardigan, my ski jacket, plus hat, scarf and gloves I was still feeling the cold - so we stopped in at a cafe just opposite the waterwheel to warm up with a mulled wine. Gooood move. With this view I could have happily stayed there for hours.

We then visited the Jewish quarter in Prague, and saw a couple of Synagogues and the Jewish Cemetery. There was also a holocaust memorial area in which the walls were covered in all the names and dates of those from Prague who lost their lives not so long ago; it really put those horrific events in to perspective and was a really sombre experience. There was also a gallery of children's artwork from whilst they were in a concentration camp called Terezin, which again was so moving. Well worth a visit if you are ever in Prague.

We had time for a last walk around the old town, and stopped in for lunch and a last beer, and then later a hot chocolate and apple strudel (the Czech's know how to make a damn good strudel!) before heading to the airport.

We've managed to fit so much in to just 4 days here, it seems like our holiday was much longer. It feels odd to be home!
